The Port of Tarragona, 5th Spanish port in maritime traffic

The president of the Port of Tarragona, Josep Maria Cruset, today presented the activity data for the 2021 financial year of the Tarragona Port Authority (APT). Port Tarragona has been the port that has grown the most out of the TOP 10 of the ports in the state system, with traffic growth of 18.3% and is in 5th place in the state ranking of ports in maritime traffic.

The port of Tarragona has closed the 2021 financial year with 31.16 million tons of goods moved, driven by significant increases in the three categories of goods; bulk liquids, bulk solids and general merchandise.

The good traffic results are accompanied by good economic figures. The Port of Tarragona has closed the 2021 financial year with revenues of 53.23 million euros, an operating result of 4.2 million euros and cash flow of 22.6 million.

Josep M Cruset has confirmed that “the figures for 2021 have far exceeded the APT forecasts, exceeding the 30 million tons initially forecast, achieving pre-pandemic levels in the first year post-COVID”. Cruset has attributed these good results to the excellent behavior of the three large groups of goods.

Bulk Liquids have exceeded the results of 2020 with an increase of 15.4%, Bulk Solids with 19.5% and General Cargo with 48.2%. The figures for 2021 are thus close to those of previous years, exceeding 30 million tons, and with a dynamism typical of 2019, which was a record year with 33 million tons.

The president of the Port explained that “these are results typical of years prior to COVID19 and are a reflection of the effort, work and spirit of resilience of all the workers of the Port Authority of Tarragona”.
