Reus will resume Holy Week with more than 80 acts in the street

Holy Week will return to attendance from April 10 to 17 after two years without doing so due to the Covid and will do so with a program “with more than 80 acts”, the president of the Agrupació d’Associacions de Setmana Santa de Reus said yesterday , Joseph Domene.

He explained that in this period of time, “the brotherhoods were on pause”, since several organized acts subject to restrictions and even spread content with the help of technologies.

“Groups disseminated content through social networks and carried out acts telematically, too,” he said. This year there are several brotherhoods that will celebrate anniversaries. This is the case of the Germandat de Sant Josep Obrer, which celebrates its 25th anniversary and on March 27 the restoration of the sculptural group of the First Fall of Jesus will be blessed, in an act that will take place in its parish whose name is the same as that of the brotherhood.

The Confraria de Nostre Pare Jesús del Calvari celebrates 70 years since the blessing of the passage of the Verge del Calvari and different acts will be carried out to commemorate this milestone. The Confraria de Sant Tomàs d’Aquino, for its part, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the blessing of its passage, El Petó de Judes. Another novelty of this Holy Week is the change of route of the Prendiment procession on Holy Wednesday: the Confraria dels Sants Just i Pastor and that of Sant Pere Apòstol will leave from the Prioral de Sant Pere, continue through the Fossar Vell and the suburb of robuster. Then, the Confraria de Jesús de l’Amargura will leave the Església de Sant Francesc, continue along Misericòrdia street and the suburb of Robuster, there it will meet the brotherhoods of Sants Just i Pastor and Sant Pere Apòstol. They will then continue the joint tour through the suburbs of Robuster and Sant Pere, Plaza de la Puríssima Sang, suburbs of Pallol and Santa Anna, Plaza de Prim, Calle de Monterols, Plaza del Mercadal, Calle Major, Fossar Vell, suburb of Robuster and Misericòrdia street, to conclude in the Parish of Sant Francesc d’Assís.

On the other hand, the Concurs Fotogràfic for professional and amateur photographers will be resumed. “10,000 informative brochures will be published with the Holy Week program and this year there will also be a Holy Week postcard with the image of the Llançada pass of the Sant Crist de la Creu Archive”, said Domene. He also emphasized the importance of having closed the program in advance. “It supposes an effort for all the entities that participate”, he indicated.

The promotion

The councilor for City Promotion, Montserrat Caelles, explained that “the celebration will recover a certain normality”. “It is difficult to predict how many visitors may come to the city for Easter, but the forecast is positive.” Both Domene and Caelles explained that the city’s civic centers and tourist offices, among other spaces, will broadcast the programming in up to four languages. “It can also be downloaded through a QR code,” the councilor recalled.
