Will the economic sanctions against Russia be more effective than those imposed against other dictatorships such as Cuba, Iran and North Korea or will they tickle a giant?
The Russian people may suffer, but they cannot protest at the risk of going to jail. Apart from that the regime will find some country that helps it.
In the first years of Francoism, the isolation of Spain was approved in the UN. The people suffered, and a country appeared to help, Argentina, which between 1946 and 1948 gave soft loans and sent 700,000 tons of wheat, 200,000 of corn and abundant frozen meat.
Perón even sent his wife, so popular that jokes were even made, such as the telegram that, after his departure, Franco sent to Forgiveness: “Prevent him from coming back.”
